Vape Pen Vs Joints: Smokers Dilemma. The history E-Cigarettes and Vaping
Although rendered “un-hip”, e cigs are deemed as uncool but the technology used to create vapes is anything but un-hip! Especially for cannabis relx users, the technology when paired can be a viable alternative for someone who doesn’t like smoking marijuana in a joint. But there are people who don’t want to smoke out of a hi-tech glowing straw. For many, rolling a joint works but for others, this tech has proven quite popular. Vaping is an easy way to consume the plant just like a cannabis cigarette. The only difference is, one is powered by a USB port while the other uses a lighter. Both get you there, high and happy!
The future is here. And for cannabis users, it is an alternative which is beginning to make sense. The e-liquids used in e cigs can be replaced with cannabis oil in the cartridge which uses the same methodology. Some brands even let users grind flowers so it can be utilized in the heating chamber which heats up without burning it. This activates the main ingredient without damaging the device. It is a nerdy way of using herb. Understanding this technology, which isn’t complicated by the way, for usage with marijuana was not meant for it in the first place. The classical way of using cannabis has seen a change and with vape pens, its set to go towards even the most unorthodox ways.
For millions, this is the way to get high. Some grind it and roll it up using papers which is much safer than regular cigarettes. Using vapes or joints is like asking someone if they prefer automatic or manual transmission vehicles. Each has their own opinion. While many prefer automatic transmission to stick, the same can be said for cannabis users. The perks of rolled joints are they doesn’t exhaust until the last puff and do not require the need for batteries to really enjoy the moment. You won’t have to run around for the charging cable by virtue of one puff too many. But assembling a joint can be a pain to roll and some people are typically put off by the saliva used for rolling a joint. It’s not completely issue-free so, again, it depends on the preference of the individual.
Even though vape fans can enjoy a huge variety of e-juices and e-liquids, there are still long paths to cover. Considering the kind of attention both the industries and sectors attract, there are lots of investigations and studies which need to be carried out in order to assert the long-term effects of both vape pens and cannabis. But for the time being, using a vape to enjoy a little cannabis in a convenient manner will be the most attractive aspect of this not-so-recent technology which is swiftly gaining popularity in the diverse ranks of smokers.
It seems as if ‘vaping’ came out of nowhere. One day it didn’t exist and then a few months later everywhere we went someone was vaping. In reality, electro-mechanical cigarettes are not new. Neither is the concept of using vapor to breathe in smoked herbs, scents, or mild-poisons. In fact, that has been going on for as long as mankind has been keeping a written record, perhaps even longer. There are accounts of such techniques in ancient China, as well as in ancient Egypt. The Romans often smoked in bathhouses, and in India 1, 500 years ago, they called smoking sugary tobacco ‘shisha’.
One famous author, Jean M. Auel, in her famous series of novels describes several ancient civilizations living in caves partaking in such smoke vaping rituals. Indeed, there is enough archeological evidence to support her historical novel storyline and depictions of such.
Fast forward to 1927 and Joseph Robinson received the first electro-mechanical cigarettes patent. He called his invention the electronic vaporizer. There were several other patents granted after that for various applications of that invention. In the early 1960s, a gentleman by the name of Herbert Gilbert came up with a contraption called the Smokeless Non-Tobacco Cigarette although it wasn’t marketed to the masses, as current vaping products, devices, and paraphernalia are today.
In 2003 a Chinese company, Hon Lik, came up with the first real electro-mechanical cigarettes device. Very similar to the style and types we see today. It comprised of a plastic cartridge, a small battery, a liquid nicotine compound, and a heating element using an ultrasonic atomizer. Although this sounds like a complex machine, it was relatively simple and inexpensive to produce. The funny thing is that no one in China much cared for it or even wanted to try it, even though the Chinese people today are among the biggest smokers in the world (cite below).
The original invention of this device was to allow people to quit smoking to save their lungs and prevent smoking from eventually taking their lives by way of lung disease, lung cancer, and other lung ailments. It was created to solve a problem and done so with the greatest intentions. The device is supposed to allow one to still have their nicotine hit without the long-term problems associated with smoking traditional cigarettes. Since nicotine is approximately a 3-day addiction, meaning if you stop smoking for 3-days you don’t really need it anymore, the electro-mechanical cigarettes made sense.
